Constitution Plaza
Constitution Plaza is the location of two Trinity programs: the Liberal Arts Action Lab and the Trinity Innovation Center in downtown Hartford. Trinity’s facilities occupy space in parts of two buildings at One and 10 Constitution Plaza. The establishment of this location was carried out under the leadership of President Joanne Berger-Sweeney as an effort to strengthen Trinity’s connections with the local community and to provide students training in technology and entrepreneurship.
Efforts to reestablish a Trinity campus in downtown Hartford began in 2015 when Trinity purchased the building at 200 Constitution Plaza. In 2016, after receiving a number of offers, Trinity agreed to sell the property at 200 Constitution Plaza, in exchange for leasing 21,000 square feet in the buildings at One and 10 Constitution Plaza.
Located at 10 Constitution Plaza, the Liberal Arts Action Lab has been open since 2018. At the Action Lab, Trinity College works with Capital Community College on research projects put forth by Hartford-based organizations. These projects address issues of importance within the Hartford community. Students in the Action Lab take two courses during a single semester to work on these projects. In the first course, students learn research methods and in the second, students work on their project, often alongside community partners.
One Constitution Plaza is the site of the Trinity Innovation Center in a 13,000 square-foot section of the building. Open since February 2020, the Trinity Innovation Center serves as the venue for programming created by a partnership between Trinity College and Infosys, a global technology consulting firm. As part of the collaboration, Trinity faculty and staff provide training to new Infosys employees, some of whom are Trinity alumni. Students and recent graduates can also attend a technology and innovation summer program at the center, which aims to prepare students for jobs in the tech industry.
