The Smith House provides accommodations for guests of the College, and serves as a venue for alumni and faculty gatherings as well as a variety of special events.

At 123 Vernon Street, the Ferguson House, as it was called originally, was built in 1885 to house the family of Rev. Henry Ferguson 1868, M.A. 1875, Hon. LL.D. 1900, the Northam Professor of History and Political Science. Designed by William C. Brocklesby, Class of 1869, M.A. 1872, the home was used as a two-family faculty residence after the death of Ferguson. Also, in 1885, the original President's house had been erected nearby at 115 Vernon.

The Ferguson House was renovated in 1990 for multipurpose use and designated the Smith Alumni-Faculty House in honor of Allan K. Smith, Class of 1911, Hon. LL.D. '68 and his wife, Gwendolyn Miles Smith, Hon. L.H.D. '90, who were devoted benefactors of Trinity.
