A 1929 Hartford Courant article notes that Trinity College had a “chemical museum.”

The article details Trinity's receipt of “a specimen of mauve, which is the first dye ever manufactured from coal tar.” Mauveine, a vivid purple synthetic dye, was created accidentally by Sir William Henry Perkin in 1856 and a sample was prepared for the 1862 London Exhibition. In 1929, Trinity received the sample from Dr. Francis P. Webb, who in turn had received it from Frederick Mollwo Perkin, the chemist's son. The article states that the sample was placed “in the chemical museum of Trinity College.”

It is possible the museum was located in Jarvis Scientific Laboratory.
