 Russell was first invited to campus around 2005 by Head Football Coach Jeff Devaney to speak before student-athletes of color. Russell had played [[athletics|football]] during his time at Trinity and wanted to talk to the students about their experiences and also to tell them about his. The event has been held annually ever since, with an expanding list of Black speakers. Russell continues to mentor athletes of color, and has also played a significant role as a Trinity alumnus, serving on the [[board_of_fellows|Board of Fellows]], the Trinity College [[alumni_association|Alumni Association]] Executive Board, and hosting various College events.
