Center for Caribbean Studies

The Center for Caribbean Studies was opened in 2016 in order to showcase Caribbean culture both abroad and in local communities. The center is building off of Trinity's established study away program in Trinidad, where students study at the University of the West Indies in St. Augustine. Hartford is also a city with a lot of Caribbean influence, with large communities of people from Jamaica and Puerto Rico settling in the mid-20th century. Greater Caribbean influence on local culture is another reason the center cites for its establishment.

The center gives out grants in order to develop undergraduate and faculty research of the Caribbean, promotes classes that focus on Caribbean studies, and hold events that allow to learn more about the broader Caribbean. This includes involvement in International Week and the International Show, holding film festivals, and hosting lecture series.
